Canada's first breeder of Lagotto Romagnolo puppies
The Truffle Farm is situated in Parksville, British Columbia. It first came into being a Truffle Farm in 1999, when Betty & Grant Duckett first imported their Lagotto Romagnolo breeding dog from Italy, along with their first Black Perigord Truffles for inoculation testing.
The Truffle Farm are the pioneers of Lagotto Romagnolo breeders in Canada, and also the first known successful Black Perigord Truffle farmers in Canada. We breed Lagotto Romagnolo puppies that are available for application from time to time. We also farm black perigord truffles, flowers, hazelnuts, poultry, sheep meat, eggs, and more!
Right now The Truffle Farm is a private farm, however we do sell various products to the public from time to time if you contact us. We do have future plans for opening The Truffle Farm for public experiences such as work shops, tours, and accommodations.

The Lagotto Romagnolo a.k.a. The Truffle Dog is great with children, special needs, outdoors, hunting for game and of course Truffles. The Lagotto Romagnolo is a rare & ancient truffle, retrieval breed that is the grandparents to many other breeds.

We have grass fed Katahdin Sheep meat, chicken and turkey poultry as well as eggs all available for purchase at The Truffle Farm.

Inoculated Trees
The Truffle Farm was the first to test many trees to identify and prove which trees would host the Black Perigord Truffle. With many years of testing various tree species to prove that the Hazelnut and Garry Oak established the symbiotic relationship.
Black Perigord
Our production of Black Perigord Truffles are used to inoculate more seedlings we grow in house. We sell our seedlings to give others the chance to produce their own truffles. We use our extra truffles for culinary. Value adding truffle products will one day be available when the time permits.

The Truffle Farm is located in the beautiful Parksville of Vancouver Island, British Columbia in Canada.
The Truffle Farm was first started in 1999 by Grant & Betty Duckett when they retired from their regular jobs with a plan and a dream to start a beautiful farm on Vancouver Island. They were the first known Lagotto Romagnolo breeders, and imported their first Lagotto Romagnolo dog from Italy.
Now with the skills and expertise passed on through generations, Peter & Virginia Brietzke have started The Truffle Farm of Parksville, B.C. where they share the land with the Ducketts.
The Truffle Farm has a large tree farm that produces Black Perigord Truffles at the roots, and Garry Oak / Hazelnut trees are the hosts. The Lagotto Romagnolo dogs are our truffle dogs, as they use their amazing sense of smell to hunt truffles on the property of The Truffle Farm.

At The Truffle Farm of Canada, We grow Black Perigord Truffles with the help of our truffle inoculated Garry Oak and Hazelnut trees. Our Lagotto Romagnolo puppies are trained from a young age to know this scent, and they have been trained through generations since the 1800s.

The Truffle Farm inoculates Garry Oak and Hazel seedlings. In controlled semi-sterile conditions, we have developed a successful process of germinating, inoculating, and raising host truffle trees for Canadian truffle production. The inoculum used is Certified Black Perigord imported under strict controls from France.
What are the Black Perigord inoculated trees growing specifications?
First off, you have to confirm the type of soil that you will need. What is needed is edaphic (soil) for Truffles to produce at the base of your trees. The required climate of T. Melanosporum can be matched in many areas of British Columbia, Vancouver Island, the Pacific Northwest and the Niagara peninsula of Ontario.

How do you find the Truffles at The Truffle Farm?

The Lagotto Romagnolo are an ancient Truffle hunting breed, and they have been trained to sniff out mature Truffles specifically. They come along on our Truffle harvests in our tree fields and sniff them out from the base and roots of our Garry Oak and Hazelnut trees.
Do Lagotto Romagnolo bark a lot?
No they do not. They are very well tempered calm dogs, and behave very well.
